Range Walking Club
Sunday 14th February 1999 - Barrowford and Barnoldswick area of Lancashire.

Hot Pot Supper time once again but, before eating, you have to earn it! Remember this is always a popular trip so early booking is essential. The date is Sunday, 14th February and we will be in the Barrowford and Barnoldswick area of Lancashire for our walks which include Pendle Hill. It is expected to be very wet under foot, given the weather this winter, so boots are considered essential for all walkers. There will be no toilet stop en route but facilities are available at the start of all walks. The Hot Pot has been arranged at The Moorcock Inn at very reasonable prices. A change of clothing and footwear would be useful prior to going for supper. As usual the coaches will leave school at 0800 hrs prompt, returning to Formby by 2000 hrs. The cost of travel is 7.00 for adults and 4.00 for children and students. in full-time education and who were formerly Range High School pupils. Please return slips with cheque (not cash) to the school office by Thursday, 4 February in an envelope marked "Range Walking Club" .

'A' Walk
Starting from Barrowford we make our way over fields and tracks to Roughlee and on to the witch village of Barley. From here we ascend Pendle Hill (557m or 1825' above sea level) where, with the right weather conditions, the views should be magnificent. We then descend northwards to the picturesque village of Downham where we partake of lunch in the company of the ducks. Wandering eastwards over Twiston Moor we arrive at The Moorcock Inn.

'B'+ Walk
We leave Barnoldswick via the 40 steps and Bancroft Mill Engine in a. southerly direction then follow tracks and paths to, Slipper Hill reservoir, views along this way are impressive, As the Leeds-Liverpool Canal exits Foulridge Tunnel we follow the tow-path to Barrowford, then north along the Pendle Way to Water Meetings (streams actually), then uphill to cross Pendle Water via a most unusual set of stepping stones. (A must for those who like to walk new the wet stuff). We continue to Hollins Top and rejoin Pendle Way to Admergill Water and on up to The Moorcock Inn for our meal. where the coaches will meet us.

'B' Walk
Starting from Barnoldswick We follow the B+ walk (count the steps!) up to Manchester Road then eastwards over Letcliff Hill and down to the Leeds-Liverpool canal (Liverpool 85 miles). Walking north along the towpath to Greenber Locks before turning northwest over tracks and fields to the medieval village of Stock, then gently climbing to Bracewell and on to Primrose Hill, From here we walk east via a Roman road to Brogden Hall and then by fields and tracks to Esp Lane and close the circle at the coaches in Barnoldswick. The coaches will transport us to The Moorcock Inn.

'C' Walk
Starting northwards from Barnoldswick we walk by fields and tracks to the Pendle Way then east to the Leeds-Liverpool canal at Greenber Locks. We follow the canal for a mile or so before striking out over low hills to Earby. From here, if the weather is fine, we will have fine views of the South Pennines. We then cross more fields to rejoin the canal south of Barnoldswick and follow the tow path to the town centre whence the coaches will take us to The Moorcock Inn.
